Intended Audience: School staff who set up their Ponder Paper scanners.
Context: After setting up your scanner, you may see the following error message(s) on the scanner's screen. This article helps troubleshoot a wired LAN (plugged into an ethernet port) scanner.
Common Error messages:
The scanner screen can read:
A. "Waiting to connect"
B. "Cannot connect to PaperStream NX Manager. Check the network settings. Code: M4:A4"
C. "The scanner is not connected to the network. Check the network settings. Code: M4:A2"
Ethernet Troubleshooting Steps:
1. Ensure your ethernet cord is connected to the back of the scanner and the other end is connected to a functioning internet port.
If applicable, check any multi-port ethernet boxes, power strips, and outlets as well.
2. Click on the X in the error message pop-up to return to the home screen (blue screen).
Or, click on the Settings button towards the bottom of the error message.
3. Once on your scanner home screen, towards the bottom right corner, click on the Settings icon.
4. In the Settings menu, click on Scanner Settings
5. On the Password screen, use the keyboard to enter "password" (all lowercase). Check "Display keystrokes" to confirm spelling.
6. On the Scanner Settings page, click on "How to connect" to continue with settings setup:

Note: an on-site tech support member may need to check the internet port for any issues. This is a common issue when school buildings are closed for large breaks due to network system upgrades, such as after summer break.
