Troubleshooting: Print Tool - How to Download and Install the Print Tool App

Follow

Last Updated: March 2026

Intended Audience: School Ops who will print multi-page (stapled) assessments from Ponder Paper for the first time.

Context: Multi-page stapled exams should be printed from the Ponder Paper Print Tool app since this app provides a quick and easy way to sub-staple (print stapled packets).

  • For example: The app tells the copier to print a PDF of Ponder Paper QR-coded assessments and staple each individual student packet into 5 page packets (a feature most copiers cannot do on their own).
  • Note: not applicable for schools that have a Ponder authorized work around (UKMS)

Download and Install the Print Tool App

1. While connected to your school's Wi-Fi, open File Explorer and enter this location to open the zip folder: \\usi.uncommonschools.org\Ponder

4. Next, save the file as a shortcut. To do so, while still in the folder, right click over the application and choose Create shortcut.

Important Note: Please do not copy the file to your desktop, instead, follow the shortcut steps in the line above. This is because, your shortcut will always point to the latest version of the application. Creating the shortcut helps keep the application automatically updated.

4. Enter your copier's IP Address

To locate your printer's IP Address:

  • For teachers: ask your Ops team for the IP Address
  • For school Ops
    • From your copier's home screen > select Machine Status > Device Information > Type in the IPv4 Address shown on your printer
    • Note: the IP address may be found on a different page depending on your copier's make and model. Contact your copier's support representative or Ponder Paper Support to help locate the IP Address.

5. Next, enter a name for the printer. It is helpful to include the copier's name and where it is located in your school building.

For example:

UWMS_4flr_TWR_whitney

UWMS_5flr_TWR_beyonce

6. To confirm the print tool app can connect to your copier:

Print a test page by hitting Run a print test > then Y for yes > then Enter

7. The print tool app will not tell you when the print job is complete. Instead, go to your copier and confirm the copier printed 2 packets. Each packet should be stapled with 2 sheets each.

 8. If you are not able to print the test packets, or have an issues with any of the steps in this article:

Please reach out to your IT Support team or Ponder Paper representative describing which step you are experiencing issues with and/or what the error message reads.
