Is there a way for students to write in their reactions to a reading?

Yes! After a student has selected a sentiment, they can optionally add a short text comment, which we call an elaboration, to expand upon their reaction to the text.

They just need to click the hand with the pencil to the bottom left of the sentiment:

After they click it, a box appears that allows them to enter 250 characters to expand upon their sentiment:

After they submit their elaboration, it will appear in the class feed, underneath their sentiment:

In this scenario, the sentiment becomes a sentence starter, providing the student with some suggestions about how to articulate their idea. Of course, Ponder will still aggregate the responses by sentiment.
